What is a good topic?

  • one that can eventually be narrowed down into a clear and focused thesis
  • one that has adequate sources available for research

 Choose a topic that interests you,  this will make research and writing much more enjoyable!

 
 

Broad vs. Narrow

 What is too broad?

A topic that has an overwhelming amount of information

EX:  The French Revolution

Narrowed: The French Revolution and the role of the media. 

 What is too narrow?

 A topic so specific that information is difficult to find.

​EX:   How the French Revolution affected education for young children in rural areas. 

Broader:    How education reforms were enacted during the French Revolution .
