Tips for searching the catalog

Tips for searching with keywords

The library catalog search defaults to a keyword search.

Combine terms to make a search more focused
Example: (progressives and reform) or (Abraham Lincoln and speeches)

For primary sources add the term "sources" or "documents"
    Example: (Theodore Roosevelt and sources)

Subject Headings

Once you find a book you like from your search results, click on the book title to open up the description page.

After finding a useful item, use the hyperlinked subject headings to find similar books.

Many books on a topic have similar call numbers. Once you have one useful book, make the trip to that shelf and browse for similar items.
