Choose a topic that interests you - this will make research and writing much more enjoyable!
A good topic...
- Can eventually be narrowed down into a clear and focused thesis
- Has Sources (such as books, articles, websites) that are both accessible and meet the criteria of your assignment. Don't choose a topic with too few sources!
Explore Background Information
- Read Encyclopedia Britannica or Very Short Introductions, or look through CREDO for background research to learn more about your topic and find keywords;
- your course readings and class notes will also provide more keywords!
- Brainstorm related concepts and keywords.
- For example, if your topic is "vegetarianism," write down synonyms or related terms: vegans, whole grains, animal rights.
